Cutting Edge Design
This was an intro project for a design class where we were to become familiar with power point and public speaking. We were to present to the class what we personally thought represented cutting edge design. At this time i had become fascinated with yachts and decided to apply it to this project. The original presentation was in powerpoint format so i have saved images of each slide chronologically.

INTRO
Cutting Edge Design refers to the latest and greatest products that are setting new and exciting trends encompassing many things such as Technology, Aesthetics and Luxury.

Mega Yachts are a prime example of cutting edge design because they are able to exploit these elements without having to conform to the conventional limits of every day products. Also by eliminating financial boundaries designers are able to harness their full creativity without being held back.

Over the years, yachts have been adopting technology from other industries; materials such as Kevlar and advanced fiber glassing techniques allow these ships to be longer, stronger and lighter than ever before. Hydraulic systems adapted to run the masts of the largest sail ships, allow for less crew members, Navigational systems ported over from the navy allow for pinpoint accuracy yet are as simple to operate as any modern day luxury car. 4000 horsepower diesel electric engines refined for quiet, reliable, and virtually maintenance free operation, not to mention the fuel cell technologies that would allow for silent operation and much more economical mileage, systems which are currently being tested. Ultimately picking and choosing the best technology to suit the functionality of the yacht.

Because of the advances in technology, aesthetics and comfort has become a driving force in the design of yachts. Without the restrictions of conventional materials newly designed yachts have sleek and sporty exteriors canvassing elegant and rich interiors designed to create the ultimate social gathering points. Features like Skylights, hard wood floors, ambient lighting, open deck areas, granite kitchen tops, and the latest in audio visual devices ensure that the guests as well as owners feel like royalty.

In combining the best of technology, aesthetics and comfort mega yachts have become the ULTIMATE SYMBOL OF LUXURY. Designers have to push the limits of what luxury is, with new submersible decks, helipads, multiple story estate rooms, private pools, glass elevators and spiral staircases, the sky is the limit when designing for the latest and greatest yachts.
