Gravisys Vehicle Wrap

Graphic Design Comments Off

Working in partnership with Speedpro Imaging i designed & installed the vehicle graphics pictured here.  The client supplied photos which he wanted to be featured on the truck. Unfortunately most of the photos were barely sufficient for the web, not to mention the monstrous sizes required for a high resolution truck wrap.

Never having done a vehicle wrap prior to this i spent a lot of time researching the process, and to my surprise there was a lot to learn. For one, photoshop has maximum file sizes… and computers tend to crash when trying to use these maximum file sizes. Top of the line computers crash with 1 gigabyte photoshop files, and ram… well there is not enough of it to go around!

For one, you have to realize the vehicles will be seen from a distance – 300DPI files are not required.

Secondly, images that are small look HORRIBLE blown up to life size. So, what was i able to do? The best photos i was able to get were 1024 x768, and stretching them larger looked bad. I did a lot of research, and found a solution which was time consuming but well worth it. Image interpolation techniques saved my butt, i found was able to blow my small images of 1024 x 768 to well over 10,000 x 8000, with little detail loss and great image quality. Later on this was a service i was able to offer my clients.

Moving on, the truck was designed, panels were laid out – printed – cut out and then applied by myself and some helpers to the clean white truck. Applying vehicle graphics can be extremely tricky in areas such as mouldings, handles, fenders, and highly curved areas. Windows had a special 1-way film applied to them, which allowed the drivers to see out through the glass.

All in all the truck turned out fantastic, and as can be seen from the photos can be a great means for advertising!

Enjoy the images.
